Democratic Party Big Lies and Inconvenient Truths

When we live in a world filled with lies from all segments of society, it is hard to know what to believe, who to trust and what is the truth.  The famous cliché “the truth will set you free” is fitting for what I have to share on the lies I have been tracking on the Democratic Party.  At the same time, I want to counter the lie with some inconvenient truths which are all based on facts.  So, here goes the first in a series with Big Lie #1.Martin Luther King Jr. and 8 Black Activists Who Led the Civil Rights Movement - Biography

Big Lie #1.  Republicans are racists while Democrats are the champions of civil liberties and rights

The inconvenient truth here, and one that is important for Democrats to debunk, is the history of American racism going back to our 28th President, Woodrow Wilson.  Wilson, a Democrat and known as the father of modern- day Progressivism, hailed the existence of the Ku Klux Klan as “a veritable empire of the South to protect the Southern country.”  In fact it was the Democratic Party that created the Ku Klux Klan after the Civil War, followed by Jim Crow segregation laws to overturn Republican civil rights laws and then supported the Dred Scott decision of the Supreme Court (all 7 Democratic judges in favor with 2 opposing) that denied “negroes imported as slaves” to be American citizens.

This pattern continued with our 33rd President, Harry Truman, also a Democrat and unabashed racist who said, “I think one man is just as good as another as long as he’s not a n*gger or a Chinaman.”  Our 36th President, Lyndon Johnson, took full advantage of the Democratic Party’s position on racism by stating “I’ll have those n*ggers voting democratic for the next 200 years.”

The other side of the inconvenient truth here is that it was the Republican Party that would foster civil rights when they founded the party in 1854 as an abolitionist movement stating “slavery is a violation of the rights of man.”  The famous African American abolitionist, Fredrick Douglass, called the Republicans the “party of freedom and progress.”  Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President, was the first Republican President and author of the Emancipation Proclamation that freed the slaves.  Republicans in Congress authored three amendments (13th, 14th, 15th) to the U.S. Constitution which banned slavery, guaranteed due process of law and the right to vote to Black Americans.  Democrats voted against all three amendments.

Our 34th President and a Republican, Dwight Eisenhower, championed the Civil Rights Act of 1957 which was unanimously supported by Republicans yet filibustered by the Democrats.

These are all Democratic Party big lies matched with inconvenient truths that continue now in the 21st century to plague the lives of Black Americans and to divide the country on the basis on race. But big lies stay big and are accepted as the truth as they are continuously repeated through all sectors of our society.  We need to reeducate ourselves on the truths of history and then pass along those truths to the next generation.  We lose our freedoms when we buy into big lies.  Please share this history with your family, friends and children.  Republicans have historically and continue today to be the champions of civil liberties and rights.
